History
The Kernersville Soccer Association was formed in 1983 and was incorporated in 1986 as a non-profit organization. The Kernersville Soccer Association offers recreational soccer for boys and girls ages 4 to 18. During the 2006/2007 seasonal year,, we had over 80 recreational teams with approximately 1,100 players; 9 Challenge teams with approximately 100 players and 5 Classic teams with approximately 70 players; for a total of over 1250 players! In the beginning, our games were played at a local elementary school. In March of 1998, KSA and the Town of Kernersville entered into an agreement for the development of Beeson Road Park. KSA leased land from the Town of Kernersville and began developing our soccer complex. We planted turf and irrigated the fields. We equipped them with goals, nets, flags and benches for five full-sized soccer fields. In July of 1999, we began construction of our building, which houses our concession stand, office, meeting room, restrooms and garage. We have also constructed a pump house, which houses our irrigation and fertilization systems. We purchased equipment for our concession stand and equipment to maintain our fields (tractor, mowing deck, golf cart, field lining machine, plugger and a top dressing machine). We not only are responsible for 100% of the maintenance of the soccer complex but we also equip and/or maintain seven soccer practice sites (14 fields) around Kernersville. All this was done through membership dues, local business support and fund raising efforts.KSA's mission is to provide a quality environment for every youth player who desires to participate in soccer. KSA strives to provide age and skill level appropriate training, coaching, and competition. Through our various programs every child will find the correct situation for themselves. Our club offers four distinct level of competition. These are Recreational, U10 Academy, Challenge, and Classic. Our U10 Academy, Challenge and Classic all fall under our Select Program. This allows our youth players to compete at the appropriate level for them and to develop their abilities in an appropriate environment. Our seasons for Recreational and Select soccer are both Fall and Spring. All of our Recreational soccer games are scheduled to play on Saturdays at the Parks Chevrolet Soccer Complex at Beeson Road Park in Kernersville. Our U10 Academy teams play other U10 Academy teams from nearby Associations. Our Challenge teams play other Challenge teams from a fifty-mile radius. Half of their games are played at home and half away. Our Classic teams play other Classic teams from around the state of North Carolina, half played at home and half played away.We also have an All-Star Recreational program. Players from our under-8 coed and girls teams to our under-18 coed teams were nominated by their team parents to represent their age divisions on All-Star teams. To assist KSA's coaches in providing adequate training we have a Director of Coaching and a Director of Player Development. Our Directors conduct weekly training sessions for our Select players. During the winter, our Directors conduct a weekly Agility Training for our Select players. These programs are meant to supplement existing team training sessions.During the summer, we host a soccer camp for individual players ages 5-14. During the year, we host at least two referee recertification courses and at least two referee certification courses. We also conduct an eight session advanced training program for our referees each year. At least once a year, we host a State or Regional Diploma course for our own coaches. Last Fall, we had over 40 coaches attend the State Diploma course.KSA presents a Fall Warm-Up Tournament for Challenge teams in August. This year the 14th Annual Fall Warm-Up for Challenge. Last year, we had approximately 70 from as far east as Wilmington, as far west and Ashville and as far south a Charlotte.Additionally, the Parks Chevrolet Soccer Complex has been a host site for other tournaments sponsored by other area clubs. These include the Wrangler McDonald tournament, the Furniture City Classic, ChallengeFest, NC State ODP program, NC Womens Challenge State Cup, US Club Soccer and also local middle school games.
